When You Should Wash Your Hair?

Mastering the perfect timing: Knowing when to treat your tresses to a rejuvenating wash.

Washing hair varies from person to person, but in general, you DO NOT need to wash your hair every day! You should wash your hair 2-3 times a week or when you feel like it’s getting dirty, or you feel like there is too much build up of product on it.

Washing your hair does not need to be an everyday task though. Overwashing your hair too much is actually more damaging than helpful, especially if your hair has color or any type of keratin treatment on it.

The more you wash your hair the more you are fading the color or rinsing the treatment out. If you feel like your hair is slightly dirty and you don’t want to wash it, try using a dry shampoo at your roots to soak up the oils. A good dry shampoo is KMS Makeover Spray or Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo. Just remember when using dry shampoos make sure that you wash the hair the following day to remove the buildup.

To give your hair the best wash possible when applying conditioner try to keep it off the roots of your hair and only on the ends, rinse with cold water at the end also helps seal the cuticle and give you scalp and roots a nice clean feeling. If you have color treated hair washing your hair should happen every other day or every third day. You have to remember that when you wash your hair when it’s been colored you are rinsing the color out every time you wash it.

To prevent your color from fading you should use a color safe shampoo. A Sulfate free shampoo is the best to stop color fading. L’oreal Professional has a great color safe sulfate free shampoo.

I like to mix the L’oreal Professional Sulfate Free Color Care Shampoo with L’oreal Professional Intense Repair Conditioning Mask. The two together give your hair protection and repair. When you wash your hair make sure you’re applying the conditioner away from the scalp, this will leave your scalp and roots feeling oil free and fresh. If you are someone who uses styling product on their hair every day, and someone who waits more than three days to wash your hair you probably have a good amount of buildup living in your hair.

When your hair feels overly dirty, and you feel like you can’t get it clean use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of excess build up on the hair. Apply the clarifying shampoo and let it sit on you’re a for 2-3 minutes, rinse, and then apply your conditioner on the ends of your hair, rinse, then apply a cold shot of water over your hair. What a cold shot does is seal the cuticle and give your scalp and roots a fresh clean feeling.

If you are someone who needs to wash your hair every day, make sure that you are not blow drying and applying an iron on it every day as well. This is when washing your hair everyday is bad for it.

There are ways around having to wash your hair every day….

• Keeping product off of the roots of your hair

• Using the right shampoo and conditioners in the right way

• Dry Shampoos in between washes!

• Doing a good wash and blow dry 2-3 times per week.
